Iceland is the kind of place where you could easily spend weeks and be in complete awe of its beauty. But if you have to keep it real and are short on days, here is a 6-day itinerary based on our overall experience.

Day 1 - Arrival & Blue Lagoon

  • Land at Keflavík International Airport early morning

  • Check-in at Courtyard by Marriott Reykjavik Keflavik Airport.

  • Drive to Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa to spend the day. Make sure you’ve made reservations well in advance for entry as well as the in-water massages. Kids are allowed in the thermal pool. They even gave us a kids bathrobe and floats! Day passes specify an entry time but they are usually accommodating even if you reach later.

  • Dinner at Italian restaurant Fernando's which is a ten minute drive from Marriott. Look up the restaurant's last order times.

  • Stock up with water & munchies for the Ring Road drive at Bónus - It's the local grocery chain.

Day 2 - Glamping in countryside

  • Leave early morning and drive to Special Tours for Whale Watching at  Reykjavík Old harbor. Explore Whale Museum for Kids.

  • Ready for Ring Road! Start driving south and check-in at the family run Camp Boutique for a fun glamping experience. Perfect for a one or two night stay. The curtains are heated with electric heaters and heating mattresses in all beds. They also have a kitchen is the common house so you could opt to cook something quick and dirty or pick up food from local restaurants.

  • Dinner at Fjöruborðið restaurant at Stokkseyri, about 10 mins drive from the camp. The magical soup does deliver the magic.

Day 3 & 4 - Onto the village of Vik

  • Drive to the remote seafront village in south Iceland called Vik, a 2.5hrs drive from the Camp.

  • Check-in at the studio apartment at Black Beach Suites with 180 degrees views of highlands. Alternate hotel stay option is Hotel Kria.

  • Explore Vik in a day - Reynisfjara Beach | Reyniskirkja Church | Dyrholaey | Reyniskirkja.

  • Book Horse Riding tours on the black sand beach of Víkurfjara

  • Enjoy your fav cuppa at Skoolbeans, Iceland's first micro roaster & tea lab coffee bus.

  • Grab drinks at any local bar

Day 5 - Drive to Jokulsarlon

  • Start driving early to spend the day at Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon, bordering Vatnajökull National Park in southeastern Iceland. It’s still, blue waters are dotted with icebergs from Vatnajökull Glacier. 

  • Book the Glacier Amphibian Boat Tour in advance. Right outside the boat tour officers, there are small food trucks. Lobster roll + chocolate crepe + hot coffee + floating ice bergs. Need I say more!

  • Explore the Diamond Beach right across the street from the boat tours.

  • Drive to Vestrahorn Viking cafe which also sells day passes to visit the private beach for stunning views of Vestrahorn mountain

  • Explore Viking village film set & drive back to Vik

Day 6 - Inside the Volcano & Reykjavík

  • Start driving from Vik to to Inside the Volcano meeting point (a ski cabin) located in Bláfjöll (the Blue Mountains).

  • Start hiking towards the volcano and take a break at the Outside The Volcano resting spot for some coffee and snacks.

  • Descend down 120 meters into the Thríhnúkagígur volcano - The only place on earth you can actually go inside a dormant volcano!

  • Head to Reykjavík and stop by at Kattakaffihúsið, a cat cafe for some delicious cakes, lovely coffee, and cats, so many cats! Explore the shopping areas in Laugavegur, Bankastræti, and Skólavörðustígur.

  • Check-out the Rainbow Street located between Bergstaðastræti and Laugavegur, walk around Hallgrimskirkja, trademark Lutheran church

  • Check-in at Courtyard by Marriott Reykjavik Keflavik Airport so you can head to the airport quickly for the morning flight back home.
